Projects

Ptea Teuk Dong Crisis Centre, Cambodia
The Rotaract Club of Tullamarine’s major International Project is providing help and support to the Ptea Teuk Dong Crisis Centre in Cambodia’s Battambang Provence.

PTD is a Street Family Centre for poor families who have no home and/or land as well as no means of income. In addition to working with poor families, PTD supports young girls between the ages of 15 and 24. These girls are the victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. PTD provides safe shelter to victims of rape so that they can recover from trauma, learn a skill and reintegrate with their families, community and society to become economically self-sufficient.

Last year 3 of our members visited the centre to build 2 water tanks; raising over $8000. In the coming years we hope to be able to build the funds to rebuild the children’s playground at the centre.

Ronald McDonald House Charity, Parkville
The Rotaract Club of Tullamarine’s major community project is conducting monthly baking sessions and biannual dinners at Ronald McDonald House, Parkville.

Ronald McDonald House becomes a home away from home for families who have a child being treated for a serious or life threatening illness at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital. Staff and volunteers attend to the daily operation of the House and ensure families are given the support they need during their stay, enabling families to stay together as a unit in a warm and caring homelike environment during this very emotional time. The families travel from all over including country Victoria, interstate, metropolitan Melbourne and overseas.

Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment
The Rotaract Club of Tullamarine supports local youth by sponsoring students in years 9-11 to RYPEN camps.

Students, from local schools attend a weekend long camp. It is aimed at developing the potential of average students, through a mixture of lecture style sessions and adventure-based learning. District 9800 Rotaractors act as facilitators for the camp, leading groups of students and running the sessions. Camps are held in October and March each year.

Themed Parties
Each year the Rotaract Club of Tullamarine holds a themed party to raise funds for one of its major projects.

Last year we held a Roaring 20s party to raise funds for our Cambodia Project. The night took guests back to the 1920s as a speakeasy with 20s music and dancing, black jack tables and bootlegged suds. Guests dressed the part, the room was filled with gangsters and flappers all there to let loose and be apart of an “aint no on the level get together”. Full of dancing, gambling, make up corner and costume competition.

This year we are holding a Masquerade Ball to raise money for the Intensive Care Unit at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital. The event will be held on Friday September 23rd to coincide with the Australian Rotaract Conference. It will be held at the Jasper Hotel. See the events page for more information.
